Maria joined the Geosciences Department in 2013. She has a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and a PhD in Physical Oceanography from the Institut de Ciències del Mar in Barcelona. Her research interests include how ocean circulation brings nutrients to fertilize the rich marine life of the northeast Atlantic and looking for signs of recent climate change in the North and equatorial Atlantic.
